Country music star Dolly Parton has died aged 80, her family have announced.
Her nephew Brian Seaver confirmed the news with a video posted on Instagram, telling Dolly’s fans the singer had been known as "sister, sis, Aunt Granny, to one generation, and Gigi to the next".
The country legend was known for her soaring vibrato vocals, poignant songwriting and sparkling costumes, which defined her rise from a log cabin in the Tennessee mountains to the height of stardom and acclaim.
Also famous for her massive blonde wigs and self-deprecating wit, the star was regarded as one of the most beloved personalities in music, with her songs finding fans across generations.
Classics like “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You,” totaled more than 100 million worldwide sales and more than one billion online streams.
Dolly was also a generous philanthropist and successful businesswoman, whose projects included a theme park in the Smoky Mountain foothills near her birthplace.
