Tributes have been pouring in from across the world of music and entertainment.
The broadcaster Paul Gambaccini told ITV News that Wilson had a "colossal impact" on music.
"He had an exquisite sense of harmonies. If you listen to ‘Surfer Girl’, for example, or ‘California Girls’, he just knew how to harmonise."
Speaking to ITV News, music presenter Bob Harris compared the Beach Boys to The Beatles.
"The Beach Boys were America’s Beatles in many ways. We had the Beatles, they had the Beach Boys – and they epitomised the incredible lifestyle that existed in the sixties on the west coast."
