
The US Treasury Department has announced that Russia’s two largest oil producers have been included in sanctions against the country.
It said the sanctions, which include designating Rosneft and Lukoil, have been imposed due to "Russia’s lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine".
The sanctions will increase pressure on Russia’s energy sector and "degrade the Kremlin’s ability to raise revenue for its war machine and support its weakened economy", the department added.
The UK government included Rosneft and Lukoil in its latest sanctions package on Russia last week.
