President Trump has tonight said he’s "very surprised" at the UK’s attitude to the Iran War and said Britain should be "involved enthusiastically".
Trump has called for countries including the UK to join a mission to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, but the Sir Keir Starmer has so far resisted the US president’s demands.
Iran has effectively shut the vital oil and gas shipping route by targeting vessels in response to the US-Israeli air strikes.
Replying to a question from ITV News’ Political Editor Robert Peston on whether the UK will heed Trump’s call to send the Royal Navy to the major trade route in the Middle East, the UK Prime Minister said there have been "discussions ongoing" with global partners.
"It is not straightforward, and therefore we have to make sure that we’ve got that credible plan in place as to what the precise options are," he told reporters at a Downing Street conference.
