Donald Trump has nominated the former Federal Reserve governor and long-time Fed critic Kevin Warsh as its next chair.

If confirmed by the Senate, Warsh would replace Jerome Powell, who has repeatedly defied Trump’s calls for lower interest rates.
Powell’s term as Fed chairman is due to end in May.
The role wields enormous influence over the world’s largest economy and comes as the US central bank is facing a severe test of its independence.
