Trump proclaims America's 'golden age' in longest State of Union address ever

Donald Trump held the longest State of the Union speech in American history, addressing Congress for one hour and 47 minutes.

Over the course of the speech, the president proclaimed America was in a "golden age" and it’s "bigger, better, richer than ever before."

He doubled down on dehumanising and divisive language, including railing against "illegal aliens" and criticised Supreme Court justices – who were also in attendance – after they struck down his global tariffs.

Democrats protested as best they could from their seats, such as Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar calling Trump a "murderer" after ICE agents killed two people during immigration operations in her state.

Outside the historic halls of Congress, Americans are anxious about the economy and largely dissatisfied with how Trump is handling it.

So is the US really "winning" in Trump’s second presidency, or is the country even more divided than it was before?
