Donald Trump has posted on Truth Social that Vladimir Putin may not want to stop the war against Ukraine.
Despite saying on Friday a deal between Russia and Ukraine was "close", on Saturday he accused the Russian leader of "tapping him along" and suggested he may have to be dealt with through "secondary sanctions".
"There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days," he wrote.
"It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!"
The post came after the US president met Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Pope Francis’s funeral in Rome.
