Trump rewrites US Presidential history - and his rivals' reputations | DW News

Politicians usually leave historians to judge their legacy, but US President Donald Trump is taking a different approach. Less than a year into his second term, he has reshaped how presidential history is presented at the White House, adding plaques—many reportedly written by him—to a new gallery of portraits that praise allies, label Barack Obama “divisive,” and replace Joe Biden’s image with an autopen alongside harsh criticism. Trump has also moved to remake the US arts landscape, overhauling the John F. Kennedy Center’s leadership and programming and backing a controversial vote by his hand-picked board to rename it the “Trump-Kennedy Center,” a step Democrats say only Congress can authorize. Analysis from Jessica Gienow-Hecht, a historian of US foreign relations and political culture.
