Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin has told him "very strongly" that he will have to respond to Ukraine’s drone attack on Russia’s airfields.
Russia’s deputy foreign minister also told Sky News the strikes "point to further escalation" in the conflict.
Sergei Ryabkov said all options were on the table in terms of a Russian response.
Ukraine launched a series of drone attacks on Russian airfields over the weekend, followed by an underwater attack on the Kursk bridge, which links Russia and Crimea.
