Leon Panetta, former US secretary of defence and former director of the CIA, has said it "doesn’t help" for Donald Trump to "speculate" on how much damage has been done to Iran’s nuclear facilities "without really knowing the facts".
Speaking to Sky’s Mark Austin, Mr Panetta said American intelligence sources provide the "very best intelligence that a leader can receive" and he hopes the president "doesn’t question that credibility", adding that a full assessment could take weeks to complete.
Mr Trump claimed three Iranian nuclear sites were "blown to kingdom come" by US strikes, and he has pushed back against a leaked preliminary intelligence report suggesting the attack only set Iran’s nuclear ambition back "by months".
