Donald Trump said it was time for Ukraine to get a new president, suggesting Volodymyr Zelensky has not done enough to end his country’s war with Russia and blaming him for high diesel prices in America.
The US President announced a deal to buy diesel from Moscow, which Zelensky said was a “gift” to Vladimir Putin.
Trump responded by saying: “I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does.
Trump says he has struck a deal to obtain more than one million tonnes of diesel from Russia in what appears to be a stunning reversal of economic pressure from Washington on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.
Trump shared the announcement on his Truth Social platform as he tries to address high fuel prices ahead of the elections.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reiterated his “complete solidarity” with Ukraine in a call with Zelensky.
