The focus of Donald Trump’s second UK state visit turned to trade and politics, in what was expected to be the day of jeopardy for Sir Keir Starmer.

But Starmer appeared to escape unscathed from his press conference with the US president.
They were still at odds over Palestinian statehood, energy policy and other issues, but the tone between the two was warm with President Trump reserving his harshest words for Vladimir Putin.
