Turkish protesters and police clashed in Istanbul after the city’s mayor was arrested yesterday on charges of aiding a terrorist group and corruption.

Ekrem İmamoğlu was due to be selected as a presidential candidate in a few days time.
Opposition parties have called his detention, and that of 100 other politicians, journalists and businessmen, a ‘coup attempt against the next president’.
