Two men have been found guilty of chopping down the ancient Sycamore Gap tree in Northumberland, in what prosecutors called an act of "deliberate and mindless criminal damage".

Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers were convicted on two counts of causing criminal damage to the tree and to Hadrian’s Wall, which was damaged when the tree fell on it.
The court heard that the tree had stood there for more than a century but the act of irreparably damaging it had taken just a few minutes.
