Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced the UK has officially recognised Palestine as a state, in what represents a significant shift in government policy.
In a video released to social media the Prime Minister said the move was made "In the face of growing horror, to keep alive the possibility of peace".
And the UK hasn’t acted alone – as Canada, and Australia, also made the same declarations today – ahead of the UN General Assembly summit, due to be held in New York this week.
