UK begins detaining illegal migrants under new UK-France deal

The UK will begin detaining some migrants who cross the Channel in small boats

for eventual return to France, after the treaty between the two countries came into force. Under the terms of the deal, the UK will return an estimated 50 migrants a week, while taking in equivalent numbers from France who have been vetted.
