UK braces heatwave as temperatures pass 32C

It’s the longest day today and also the hottest so far this year. Much of the country has a light and warm evening ahead.

But – while it’s far from us to suck the joy out of a good news story – there is a downside to all this.

Health data analysts say there’s evidence to show that sustained heat waves cause hundreds of extra deaths each time they happen.
