Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian Ambassador, to the UN told ITV News he is "grateful" the UK has taken the decision to recognise the Palestinian state, but warned there is "no silver bullet" to the conflict in the region.
The UK will use the UN General Assembly to push for a peace plan for the Middle East.
The question of Palestinian statehood is likely to dominate the gathering of world leaders in New York in the coming days.
