UK doubles troops in Norway

The UK says it will double the number of troops stationed in Norway to help counter Russian threats in the High North (Arctic region).

The Defence Secretary John Healey said 2,000 members of the Armed Forces would be sent to the region and that he’ll be discussing the security threat with Nato partners in Brussels tomorrow.

1,500 Royal Marine Commandos will take part in joint Nato drills next month, across Norway, Finland and Sweden, which are designed to train forces in how to operate in extreme conditions.
