Sky’s Sarah-Jane Mee speaks to Humphry Trevelyan, whose family decided to apologise and pay reparations to the people of Grenada, where their ancestors owned six sugar plantations.
Speaking on The UK Tonight, Mr Trevelyan said financial reparations are important, but it is also "a matter of acknowledging the hurt and the trauma that people still live under, and showing that they are heard and seen and recognised".
His comments come as British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called the transatlantic slave trade "abhorrent" but ruled out reparations, saying the countries affected would prefer the UK to assist them with current issues like climate change.
