Chief Secretary to the Treasury John Glen said the legacy of COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine has given the UK economy "real shocks" but welcomed the fall in inflation rate from 7.9% to 6.8% in the year to July.
Mr Glen added: "Getting inflation down is the most important thing the government can do."
