UK sea temperature soars

Sea temperatures around the UK and Ireland have soared in recent weeks and have risen suddenly over the last nine days.

Figures from the Met Office and National Oceanographic Centre show that some areas areas are four degrees Celsius above what would normally be expected for the time of year.

The sharpest rises have been off the west coast of Ireland and Devon and Cornwall and have resulted from a sunny spring, plus weak winds and waves.
