The State pension is set to rise by 3.9 percent next year which means it could reach £13,000 a year. The Government currently uses the triple lock policy which guarantees the state pension increases by the highest between wage growth, inflation or 2.5 percent. Some economists have warned about the cost of the policy ahead of the Budget.
