UK to buy F35 stealth jets

The prime minister has announced a major expansion of the UK’s nuclear deterrent.

Twelve F35 fighter jets – made in the US and capable of carrying nuclear warheads will be added to the RAF’s fleet.

Sir Kier Starmer said the purchase will support 100 businesses across the country and more than 20,000 jobs.

Since the end of the cold war the UK’s nuclear deterrent has been carried exclusively by the Royal Navy submarines.
