UK to give sovereignty of Chagos Island to Mauritius in historic deal

In an historic deal, the UK is giving sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. It follows a diplomatic dispute that stretches back fifty years.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on X that the deal would ‘protect international security, close a potential illegal migration route, and avert threats to peace and prosperity in the Indian Ocean.’
