The rate of unemployment in the UK has surged to 5% in the third quarter of the year.

It’s the highest level since the end of 2020, when many people were out of work because of the pandemic.
Wage growth has also fallen slightly, showing a general weakening in the jobs market before Rachel Reeves’s autumn budget.
However, job vacancies have risen for the first time in over three years.
