UK will end use of asylum hotels by 2029, says chancellor

Rachel Reeves said the government will stop housing asylum seekers in hotels by the end of this parliament – which is due to finish in 2029.

The chancellor also said that the funding she has announced today will also cut the asylum backlog, see more appeal cases heard and "return people who have no right to be here".
