Ukraine and Russia have begun what is expected to become the largest swap of prisoners since the start of their war.

390 prisoners have been released by each country so far. The decision to exchange a total of 1,000 prisoners each was made in Istanbul last week, during the first direct talks between the two sides since just after the start of the war in 2022.
