Around 1,000 Ukrainian troops have penetrated several miles into Russia’s Kursk region in an ongoing incursion that appears to have caught the Russian military by surprise.
Russia’s Kursk region has gone into a state of emergency amid the attack.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has described the cross-border attacks as a "large scale provocation", but Ukrainian officials are yet to comment on the claims.
