US: ‘Direct talks’ planned on Iran nuclear deal

Iran’s foreign minister has agreed to meet the US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Oman for talks aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear programme.

Tehran insisted the talks won’t be face to face but carried out through an intermediary.

Mr Trump has moved from threatening to attack Iran if it didn’t enter negotiations, to declaring that "doing a deal would be preferable".
