The United States has temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian oil tankers currently stranded at sea – in a bid to stabilise oil prices.
The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed the 30 day waiver would not give the Russian government any "significant financial benefit".
But Germany’s chancellor Friedrich Merz said the move was wrong – and asked "what other factors led the US government to take this decision".
