A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin appears increasingly likely, after both the White House and the Kremlin confirmed plans were underway.
Putin said the United Arab Emirates could host the talks. But he ruled out meeting with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy, saying the conditions for that encounter were not yet in place. The White House says the Trump-Putin summit could take place as early as next week. Trump has been pressing for a meeting as he seeks to secure an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine.
