The US Justice Department has released transcripts of the interviews it conducted with Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell repeatedly praised US President Donald Trump during the interviews in July and said she did not believe Epstein killed himself.
The release of the transcripts, which run to hundreds of pages, is the latest effort by the Trump administration to repair self-inflicted political wounds after failing to deliver promises its own officials had created, through conspiracy theories and bold pronouncements in the run-up to the election.
When repeatedly pressed on her relationship with the US president, during the interviews, Maxwell heaped him with praise.
