
The presidents of Mexico and Brazil are calling for restraint from Washington, after president Donald Trump ordered a blockade on some oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. Brazil’s Lula da Silva said he could facilitate a dialogue between Trump and Venezuela’s leader Nicolas Maduro. Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum has called on the UN to ‘prevent any bloodshed.’ Trump claims Venezuela uses oil revenues to fund drug-trafficking into the US. Venezuela says it won’t be intimidated by the blockade, and its oil exports have not been affected.
