US Senate narrowly passes Trump’s ‘big, beautiful, budget bill’

Across the Atlantic, a divided Senate has approved Donald Trump’s flagship domestic policy bill by the narrowest of margins – which came down to a tie breaking vote cast by Vice President JD Vance.

After 24 hours of heated debate – three Republicans crossed the floor to join Democrats opposing the bill – including sweeping cuts to taxes and welfare programmes. It now needs to be approved by the House of Representatives, where it could face more opposition.
