US Supreme Court halts deportation of Venezuelans under wartime law

The US Supreme Court has ordered a temporary halt on the Trump administration’s attempts to deport Venezuelan immigrants under a wartime law dating back almost 250 years.

Campaigners launched the case after hearing that some men being held at a Texas detention centre were being loaded onto buses and told they were being deported – without being given the chance to contest their removal.

The White House has also refused to bring back a man who’s been wrongly deported to an El Salvador jail.
