Royals have joined thousands of people lining the streets of London as four days of commemorations begin to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Actor Timothy Spall delivered the words of Sir Winston Churchill’s 1945 victory speech to launch the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, as NATO allies joined 1,300 members of the armed forces for a procession through central London.
The King and Queen, joined by other members of the Royal Family, later appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the RAF flypast – one of the highlights of the national VE Day commemorations.
