Sky-high surprise vet fees could be a thing of the past, as potentially the biggest shake-up the sector has seen in the past 60 years is spurred on by government proposals.
Vets will have to publish price lists for common treatments and disclose whether they are independent or part of a chain. They will also be a part of a new GP-style licensing system.
Plans are aimed at helping pet owners understand what they are paying for and avoid unexpected costs.
Around half the population have pets – and when they get ill, their family’s financial health can also take a dive.
Prices in the sector have risen rapidly, almost twice the rate of inflation, leaving pet owners out of pocket and without the vital information they need.
