Vets will be legally bound to cap written prescriptions at £21 and to publish price lists under reforms that will be introduced later this year.

The changes come after an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority, which found that prices in the sector had been rising at nearly twice the rate of inflation.
The British Veterinary Association said that the measures will help pet owners make more informed choices.
