Figures for England and Wales from the Office for National Statistics show just how widespread the problem is: 1 in 3 women over the age of 16 reports having experienced domestic abuse and 1 in 4 women when it comes to sexual assault.
At the heart of the strategy unveiled today, after three delays, is the pledge to halve by 2034 the numbers saying they were the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking in the past year.
