Speaking to Channel 4 News, Dadlani, one half of the Bollywood music duo Vishal–Shekhar, said the government was seeking to quash dissent as young Indians demand answers over electoral transparency and accountability.
Dadlani, who previously took part in India’s 2011 anti-corruption protests, said he remained hopeful that the demonstrations could bring change. He argued that the authorities should engage with protesters and answer their questions, adding that “simply sitting down and having a conversation is better” than using force.
