Voicing dissent in China is risky but it's rising dramatically

Data shows protests in China – the vast majority linked to economic grievances – have risen dramatically over the last year.

Figures from China Dissent Monitor show a considerable rise in incidents of dissent, despite the fact a lack of political freedom in China makes such actions risky.

China Dissent Monitor belongs to Freedom House, a non-profit organisation which has been sanctioned by China.

Sky’s Asia Correspondent Helen-Ann Smith travelled to a protest in Shenzhen, in Guangdong province.
