Warnings to stop using ring-style frisbees amid concerns for seal safety | ITV News

Swansea council is encouraging people to not use or sell frisbees with holes in the middle as seals can get their heads stuck, causing injury and even strangulation.

Seal pups see the frisbees as toys and their inquisitive nature causes them to stick their head through the middle, but overtime as they grow, the ring tightens around their neck causing strangulation.

A new campaign has seen major companies like Tesco, Halfords and Pets at Home voluntarily agree to stop selling the frisbees in their stores in the Swansea area.

ITV News Wales Reporter Rhys Williams investigated the issue impacting the UK ‘s coastal wildlife and how councils are trying to combat it.

A warning that this report contains distressing images of seal injuries.
