More students received top GCSE grades this year, but the pass rate has fallen slightly to pre-pandemic levels.
The gender gap between boys’ and girls’ results has decreased to its narrowest point this century.
Hundreds of thousands of pupils across England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their GCSE grades and technical awards on Thursday morning, which will help them progress on to sixth form, college or training.
More than a fifth (22%) of UK entries were awarded the top grades of at least a 7 or grade A this year, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to last year, according to figures published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).
Results are also higher than pre-pandemic in 2019, when 20.8% of entries achieved the top grades.
