Four ministers, led by the Home Secretary, have gone into Number 10 to tell the prime minister to consider setting out a timetable for him to resign, ITV News understands.
It comes after four government aides have resigned as they joined dozens of Labour MPs calling for Sir Keir Starmer to stand down following a disastrous set of local election results.
The resignations came within hours of the prime minister making a speech promising sweeping changes, which was designed to unite the party.
