President Trump’s anti-immigration policies are what helped get him elected. The way they are being carried out though – with two recent fatal shootings in Minnesota by immigration agents – is becoming more and more unpopular.
Even Mr Trump had come to realise a change of approach was needed. Tonight it appeared to be complete. The man running the operation has been pulled out of Minessota – a trusted replacement will soon be in place.
This evening the President called the shooting of intensive care nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday a very, very unfortunate incident. That’s not how his Homeland Security Secretary had described it.
And in another sign of just how signficant a change this is, even the First Lady got involved. Melania Trump called for unity in Minnesota and if there are protests that they be peaceful.
