Warning: This livestream may contain distressing details.

The 15-year-old boy who murdered schoolboy Leo Ross with a knife as he walked through a park and attacked elderly women in the previous days has been detained for a minimum of 13 years at Birmingham Crown Court.

Leo died after he was stabbed in the stomach as he walked home after school through a park in Hall Green in Birmingham, on the afternoon of 21 January 2025.

He was found injured near Scribers Lane at around 3:30pm, and died in hospital a few hours later.

Leo, described in a family statement released shortly after his death as an “amazing, kind, loving” boy, was walking home from the Christ Church, Church of England Secondary Academy in Yardley Wood.

Police have described his attacker as someone with "a need to carry out acts of violence" – and added he had no connection to Leo, who they say he chose at random.

Police also said the killer also attacked elderly vulnerable women in the park days before he killed Leo.

The defendant was also charged with possessing a bladed article, assaulting a woman on October 22 last year, seriously assaulting a woman on January 19 and January 20, and assaulting a woman on January 21.
