Ministers confirmed today that a package of rail improvements is being planned by the government.
The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has promised that train journeys in the North of England will change for the better.
And, she insisted, this time, the so-called Northern Powerhouse Rail project is "actually going to happen".
The scheme was first proposed in 2014, and despite funding still being unclear, does now have fresh commitment from the Treasury.
