MPs are voting on plans for the biggest shake up of abortion laws in England and Wales for a generation.
It could see an end to prosecutions of women for terminating their own pregnancy at any stage – but decriminalising abortion is facing fierce opposition.
The latest attempt follows repeated calls to repeal sections of the 19th-century law – the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act – after abortion was decriminalised in Northern Ireland in 2019.
