The Prime Minister is announcing his plan for digital ID cards at a Global Progress Action Summit in London alongside the likes of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Sir Keir Starmer has said plans for a new digital ID held on people’s phones will be an "enormous opportunity" for the UK and will make it harder for people to work illegally.
Under the plans, a digital ID will be mandatory for proving the right to work, but people will not be required to carry it with them or present it on demand.
It will be available to UK citizens and legal residents by the end of the current parliamentary term.
